Rodney Leach is a financial strategist with Jardine Matheson, an adviser to the Republic National Bank of New York Group, a Member of the British Library Board and Chairman of the Portland Club, the ultimate arbiter of the world's rubber bridge game.
He was educated at Balliol College, Oxford, where he gained a Double First. After a brief spell as an academic teaching classics, he turned investment banker, becoming one of the few non-family partners of N M Rothschild & Sons. As head of the bank's international division he was closely identified with the remarkable growth of the euromarkets in the 1970s.
During the Hugarian Revolution of 1956 he worked in a refugee camp. His wife, an artist and writer, was one of the leading activists in the 'underground universities' of Poland, Czechoslovakia and Romania in the last years of the Cold War.
