Sir Alan Walters

Alan Walters is Vice Chairman and Director of AIG Trading Group, Inc. He has been chief economic advisor to Mrs, (now Lady) Margaret Thatcher, and advisor to the World Bank, various Governments, central banks, and financial institutions. He has held a number of academic positions in Great Britain and the United States, including professorships at John Hopkins University, the University of Birmingham and the London School of Economics, where he was the Sir Ernest Cassel Professor of Economics. He also received a Doctorate in Social Sciences from the Universidad Francisco Marroquin, Guatemala City (1994).

He is a widely published author whose thirteen books include The Economics of Road User Charges, Money in Boom and Slump, Microeconomic Theory (with Richard Layard), Britain's Economic Renaissance: Margaret Thatcher's Reforms, 1979-1984, and most recently Sterling in Danger: The Economic Consequences of Pegged Exchange Rates.

He was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in June 1983.
